Federal Election 2025
Well folks the election is over, but as I start writing this editorial some 10 days after the election, not every seat is confirmed. It amazes me still how in today’s modern world we still rely on people counting votes one by one. Surely human error is more likely than computer error, or worse, computer tampering. Even just this morning there was a news article about a ballot box containing some 2,000 ballots were found in the home of one vote counter. I also think a number of people were “influenced” by media reports claiming that pre-voting by some 2 million Australians had Labour ahead even before Election Day. Surely that must have been in the minds of some voters on Election Day. Some reports suggest that more than 6.5million Australian’s or over 37% of eligible voters cast their ballot before 3rd May 2025.
Well, how did your vote count in the election?
Adding Verona Book Club to our resources.
One of my passions is writing. For some time now I have had a Novels page on this website. A big influence on my novel writing has been the Gay Youth Chronicles and the stories of youths growing up in the fictional town of Verona. So I created a Facebook group called the “Verona Book Club” for other readers, writers and enthusiasts. I have just added a link to this Facebook group on my novels page. Or you can click the links here.
A huge thanks to Mr Ken Clark for the artwork. Ken is the webmaster for the Mark A Roeder website. Ken also does all the graphics for Mark’s books including those in the Gay Youth Chronicles.

Besides the election in Australia, the other big news is the election of Pope Leo XIV. I will confess upfront I am not a Catholic nor am I overly religious. I do consider myself spiritual. I guess that comes more from my Aboriginal ancestry. However it is hard not to miss the implications that a new Pope has on the world. Especially given the disgraceful impact that the church has had on so many issues over the years, from slavery to the roles of women to child abuse scandals. The Catholic Church has been at the forefront of all of these major events in history. Are we at another juncture? Can the Church turn things around.
Or are we at the end of all things as Malachy predicted?
What are your views on the role of religion in todays society?
